Tom is a Professor in the departments of anesthesiology, medicine and physiology at UCLA. Tom’s laboratory (www.vondriskalab.org) focuses on the interface between chromatin biology and heart disease. Key questions his research addresses are: How is the genome (i.e. all the cell’s DNA) packaged in the nucleus? How does the same genome encode hundreds of different cell types in the body? How do heart cells malfunction in disease and how can we prevent or reverse this process? Tom’s lab includes graduate students, undergraduate students, post-doctoral research fellows, research staff and visiting scholars from other countries using a wide variety of experimental techniques and model systems. Outside of the lab, Tom enjoys backpacking and cycling.
